THE STORY

Antigua, Guatemala is one of the most stunning growing regions in the world – both in terms of the majestic beauty of the landscape, and the high quality of the coffee grown there.  The actual city of Antigua is surrounded by several volcanos, and the one best known is called Agua.  However, this particular volcano has been known by the Mayans as Hunapu.

A fourth generation coffee farmer by the name Luis Pedro Zelaya owns a very well-known coffee processing area and farm called Beneficio Bella Vista.  Hundreds of small farms in the Antigua area bring their coffee there for processing.  Rumor has it Luis Pedro Zelaya is the one who insists coffee from this area be tied to the ancient name Hunapu.

The vast number of specialty coffee roasters who yearly seek Hunapu coffee is a testament to the quality product put forth by these farmers and producers; every year the coffee from around Hunapu is magnificent.  This year it is round and sweet, somewhat creamy, with primary flavors of chocolate and black cherry.  The flavors in the cup linger with a long finish and sweet citrus notes reminiscent of grapefruit.  A beautiful coffee not to be missed!
