THE STORY

Guatemala is the “darling” of Central America when it comes to producing special coffee, and most would argue Huehuetenango is the most celebrated growing region Guatemala has to offer.  Every year stunning coffee pours out from Huehuetenango, and every year it is our privilege to showcase the impeccable work of the small farmers there.

This coffee comes specifically from a small municipality within Huehuetenango called Union Cantinil.  This lot was produced by around 80 small farmers with a land size averaging 1.5 hectares – very small landholders.  The coffee was picked by hand when cherries reach the peak of ripeness, and it is processed using fully washed methods typical for Central America.

What they produced is very much a prototypical, high end Guatemalan coffee.  It is heavy and clean, with great balance between deep milk chocolate and caramel supported by red fruits.  This is an extremely approachable, yet really beautiful coffee.  Check this one out, and while you do, remember to reflect for just a minute upon all the work that went into what you have in your cup – you’ll appreciate it even more that way!
